Work percentage: 100%

Grade: A1

Type of contract: Fixed-term (12 months with possibility of renewal)

BACKGROUND

TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organization working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Reporting directly to the Finance Officer, the Driver-Mechanic's main duties are to: Drive project and company vehicles; Ensure that the a dministrative documents of the vehicles are well kept and up to date; Filling in logbooks (movement, fuel consumption and maintenance); Carry out routine vehicle maintenance and servicing; Ensure that major repairs are carried out by a professional and follow up on them; Apply administrative procedures governing the use of vehicles.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Driving

  • Carries out the timetable drawn up for him by the supervisor;
  • Ensures that all vehicle papers are in order and checks the general condition of the vehicle, including accessories, wheels, braking system and levels;
  • Is responsible for driving the vehicle under his responsibility;
  • Is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and must be mindful of its equipment, the environment, and the safety of passengers;
  • Is responsible for his presentation and behaviour in order to preserve the image of IUCN;
  • If necessary, the Driver-Mechanic may be called upon to work off-duty, during weekends or on days not worked by the Programme.

Vehicle maintenance and support services

  • Maintains and fills in the vehicle logbooks under his responsibility and checks the mileage for the necessary periodic maintenance;
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the vehicle under his responsibility as well as its good functioning;
  • Informs his supervisor of any anomalies noted and of any repairs and purchases of spare parts deemed necessary, especially after missions;
  • Systematically reports on the condition of the vehicle;
  • Carry out systematic technical visits of the vehicle under his responsibility as requested by the Supervisor.

Application of IUCN administrative procedures

  • Strictly follow all procedures and rules for the use of IUCN vehicles
  • Carry out any other task requested by his/her supervisor that is within his/her competence.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications/diplomas and experience

  • Holder of the CEP or FSLC;
  • Holder of a valid category B, C and D driving licence. All categories of licence desirable;
  • Solid experience in driving 4 x 4 vehicles;
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar position;
  • Very good theoretical and practical knowledge of car mechanics;
  • Working knowledge of written and spoken French and English.
